Our Training Approach

Training Courses and In-house Workshops from SM Thacker & Associates

Our Courses

Participation

  • Our courses are not "chalk and talk", they are highly participative, and we would expect at least one problem to be analysed and on the way to being solved before the course ends.
  • The courses are structured to provide education and problem solving in about equal proportions. Each course (except overviews) is designed to achieve specific outputs such as a task list or a problem solved etc.
  • Because our courses are interactive in nature there is a practical limit to the number of attendees. As a rule of thumb, we consider a course full with 10 participants, and in some courses such as inventory modelling fewer.

First principles

One thing we insist on is that our courses are delivered from first principles. We believe that this method is the most effective, because the principles are then capable of being adapted to suit your local circumstances.

Continuous improvement

We continuously improve our courses based on our latest research and feedback from participants. All our courses contain unique content which cannot be found elsewhere.

Support following the course

We have observed that following conventional training courses, the adoption of revised practices is low. This we believe is for two reasons:

  1. The training does not meet strategic objectives or is mistimed in the context of a change programme.
  2. The participants often need coaching in the early application of the training.

Following the course we will be happy to answer telephone or email queries from participants relating to the topic content free of charge.

Optional further support packages

Also to solve this problem, we are happy to assist your development programme / project with a complete range of support packages ranging from mentoring, and coaching, to hands-on consultancy, or to deliver standard or tailored course content to in-house workshops.

Our Trainers

Our trainers, whilst understanding modern best practice theory with a number of published articles in journals and research papers, have broad and in-depth knowledge and wide range of practical experience, actually implementing these practices in a variety of real businesses around the world in line management and senior consulting roles.

Our Participants

We listen very carefully to what our course participants say and here is a selection of what some of our attendees and their managers have said about our courses:

  • "The trainer has an excellent display of confidence and subject knowledge."
  • "The course gave me a clearer approach to projects and tools to use."
  • "The course met its objectives."
  • "The trainer has an excellent display of creativity and enthusiasm in the course delivery."
  • "The pace of the course was suited my needs."
  • "Very enjoyable and informative."
  • "Course very well structured and trainer was approachable."
  • "The two courses were run well and have started the thought process."
  • "The trainer established a good rapport with the students."
  • "Extremely useful for my job."
  • "Very good. A lot to digest and action."
  • "Provided lots of food for thought."
  • "Made me think differently."
  • "It gave us a different approach to documenting our processes and procedures."
  • "Lots of good content the pace of the course was brisk."
  • "Provided some new concepts we had not thought about."

Finally

We aim to have some fun in our courses, since this has been shown to have a beneficial effect on learning, and we aim to challenge your preconceived ideas about the topic. Our aim is to make you think differently.

Think Differently!

Whilst great care has been taken to provide relevant, accurate, practical, advice based on our considerable process design and development experience, this will almost certainly require interpretation into the context of your unique business. Please be careful in doing so and if in doubt seek expert advice. We would welcome your feedback!
